DESCRIPTION: \nREGISTER HERE. \n \nAgainst a backdrop of rising authoritarianism\, rapid advances in AI\, and the expansion of surveillance infrastructures\, activists are navigating an increasingly complex landscape. In this webinar\, we’ll reflect on the evolving role of data activism in today’s social justice movements. \nThis live event will feature four activists interviewed for our new book\, Mobilizing Data for Justice: A Guide to Activism in the Digital Age: \n  \nErin McElroy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Washington\, where their work focuses on gentrification\, technology\, empire\, fascism\, and racial capitalism\, alongside housing justice organizing and transnational solidarities. Erin is author of Silicon Valley Imperialism: Techno Fantasies and Frictions in Postsocialist Times (2024) and coeditor of Counterpoints: A San Francisco Bay Area Atlas of Displacement and Resistance (2021). McElroy is also cofounder of the Anti-Eviction Mapping Project\, and runs the Anti-Eviction Lab at UW where much of the student and community-led research focuses on Landlord Tech Watch. McElroy is currently working on a new book project entitled Technofeudal Fever Dreams: Fascistic Fiefdoms\, Doom Loop Dystopics\, and the Urban Anxieties of Empire\, and is also co-curating a new atlas project on political software. \nJacinta Gonzalez is Head of Programs for MediaJustice. Jacinta was previously the head of No Tech for ICE\, and has been exposing the connections between the Trump regime and Big Tech. \nMunira Lokhandwala is the Co-Executive Director at LittleSis. In her role\, she focuses on the organization’s mission to support grassroots organizers through power research trainings that sharpen our collective understanding of what we’re up against and how to wage strong campaigns to win what our people deserve. \nPetra Molnar\, Associate Director\, Refugee Law Lab\, is a lawyer and anthropologist specializing in migration and human rights. Petra is the author of The Walls Have Eyes: Surviving Migration in the Age of Artificial Intelligence\, 2024 Finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award and a CBC Book of the Year.  \nWebinar attendees will receive a 25% discount code for our new book! \n
